Bio
Dr Julia Gilmartin-Thomas is from the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, Monash University, where she is Head of the Chronic Pain and Medication Use in Ageing Research Group. Julia’s research interests are in dementia, healthy ageing, geriatrics, quality use of medicines, health services research, and education of future/current health care professionals. Julia has an extensive network of national and international collaborators (Europe and US). Julia is an Australian registered Pharmacist and NHMRC-ARC Dementia Research Development Fellow (2016- ). Prior to her current Fellowship, Julia was a C W Maplethorpe Postdoctoral Fellow for Pharmaceutical Education and Research at University College London School of Pharmacy (2013-15) and Visiting Scholar at the School of Medicine, University of Eastern Finland (2014, funded by the Alzheimer’s Australia Dementia Research Foundation). At Monash University, Julia graduated from her Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons), Graduate Certificate in Pharmacy Practice, PhD (2014), and Master of Biostatistics. Julia has 37 publications, presented at 31 conferences (13 international, 2 Invited Speaker), and has received ~$ 1 million in grants, fellowships, awards and prizes. She is an Early-Mid Career Researcher Representative, Executive Member of the MEDicines and DEMentia Special Interest Group, Assistant Editor of the Journal of Pharmacy Practice and Research, and Associate Fellow of The Higher Education Academy (UK).
